Chairperson Riley stated he would like to be updated on the summer construction schedule,
including seal -coating, and other city -related construction.
City Engineer Westby replied this can be on the agenda for the next meeting.
Councilmember Shryock suggested this Committee implement a form of a consent agenda to
keep updated on announcements.
City Engineer Westby said staff will present updates and announcements at the end of each
meeting, and that a future topics calendar will be added at the end of agendas to keep the
Committee updated on the status of pending items.
Chairperson Riley asked if there were any updates Staff needed to mention.
City Engineer Westby noted the concrete is deteriorating on Sunwood Drive, especially in the
pedestrian crosswalks, and that significant gaps are forming. Staff will research options for
fixing the pavement this spring and early summer. Staff will also look at striping improvements
on Sunwood Drive in 2016.
Chairperson Riley asked why these issues appeared so soon.
City Engineer Westby explained the concrete deterioration may be due to the use of colored
concrete in crosswalks. He said a lot of research has been completed on this issue which is
occurring in many cities throughout the state.
Councilmember Shryock asked if the ice this morning was anticipated by Public Works.
Public Works Superintendent Riemer replied the weather service hadn't picked up on it. He said
trucks were out Sunday night and salted trouble areas. This morning, the trucks went into the
neighborhoods. He said the Police frequently call the Public Works Department if they run into
issues of icy roads and it wasn't anticipated.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Councilmember Johns, seconded by Councilmember Shryock to adjourn the Public
Works Committee meeting.
Motion carried.
The regular meeting of the Public Works Committee adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Public Works Committee / February 16, 2016
Page 5 of 6
