COMMISSION BUSINESS <br />5.01: Nominate Chair and Vice -Chair of the Park and Recreation Commission <br />Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood reviewed that each year the City <br />Council makes appointments to their various subcommittees, with commissions and boards also <br />expected to appoint a Chair and Vice -Chair for their respective entity. The purpose of this case is <br />to establish the Commission's Chair and Vice -Chair for 2016. In terms of process, staff proposes <br />nominations for first the Chair, and then after approval by the majority of voting Commissioners, <br />the Vice -Chair also administered in the same manner The terms of Boards and Commission are <br />from April lst through March 31' of the respective year(s). <br />Motion by Commissioner Mobry, seconded by Commissioner Chubb, to nominate Shane Bennett <br />as the Chair and Bridgett Barr as the Vice -Chair of the Park and Recreation Commission for <br />2016. <br />Motion carried. COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT <br />Mr. Riverblood reported the Ramsey Concert Series at the Amphitheater is scheduled for this <br />summer and the lineup is really great for this year. <br />Mr. Riverblood provided an update on the Trott Brook Greenway Project. He indicated the area <br />of a potential boardwalk on a map. A midway trail connection would have a native wildflower <br />planting. A rain garden may also be constructed as a demonstration project. More information <br />will be forthcoming. Trees would be planted as part of Arbor Day, with the Commission and <br />Environmental Policy Board potentially hosting the event on site. <br />Mr. Riverblood provided an update on the Mississippi River Trail and presented a number of <br />photographs. The first trail in Ramsey was constructed around 1990. The King's Island bridge <br />connecting Ramsey and Anoka was shown. Signage along the trail uses the MRT logo — The <br />Mississippi River Trail. The trail is also a United States Bike Route #45. There will be a reunion <br />bike ride this summer with lunch being provided by The Lunch Box and held in Ramsey. <br />Commissioner Barr asked if the fields are ready to be used by soccer and Mr. Riverblood stated <br />the turf is wet and any use would be very tough on the dormant grass. It is too early to start <br />playing on the fields. Commissioner Barr concurred. <br />7.
