Meeting Date: 06/14/2016 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution #16-06-113 to Hire an Engineering Intern Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request authorization to fill the City's last open Engineering Intern position as accounted for in the 2016 budget. Each year the City employs Temporary Interns. Most of these employees began working in early May; however, the individual listed below was delayed due to his school schedule. The process to fill intern positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, background checks, pre -employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on -boarding. As a result, staff selected the final intern to complete the City's annual hiring needs. The candidate, Mr. Jimmy Baxter, has passed the pre -employment screenings and staff recommends hiring him. Notification: Intern pay: The intern pay scale ranges from $12.00 per hour to $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Observations/Alternatives: Option #1 To hire the selected 2016 Temporary Engineering Intern. Option #2: Not moving ahead with hiring the Temporary Engineering Intern. Staff does not recommend this option due to the inability to meet the highly labor intensive work demands in Engineering Department . Funding Source: The funding required to fill this position is included within the approved 2016 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommends option #1 above, hiring Mr. Jimmy Baxter as a Temporary Engineering Intern @ $12.00 per hour, effective on or near June 1, 2016. Action: Motion to adopt resolution #16-06-113 to hire Mr. Jimmy Baxter as a Temporary Engineering Intern @ $12.00 per hour, effective on or near June 1, 2016.
