Councilmember Williams stated that the EDA has looked at this for a long time, as this location
was identified as the best location for a business park. She noted that the City is competing with
other communities that have land available to businesses at a discount. She stated that the EDA
recommends to continue to pursue this land as business park location and the City could then
help facilitate a purchase of the property. She noted that if the EDA is not able to help facilitate
a purchase, the EDA would then pursue the purchase by the City.
Councilmember Johns stated that she agrees with the recommendation of the EDA as this land
has been identified as the location for a business park.
Mayor Strommen stated that the Council and EDA have identified this land for use as a business
park and therefore should continue to pursue that goal. She noted that the City has made similar
investments in the past that have been successful, using the example of Life Fitness, which is a
business that has continued to grow and thrive in Ramsey. She confirmed the consensus of the
Council to follow the recommendation of the EDA to continue to pursue this land as a business
park.
Asst. City Administrator/Economic Development Manager Brama confirmed that the Council is
comfortable with the EDA continuing to move forward.
Mayor Strommen noted that this item can come back to the Council as frequently as needed.
Asst. City Administrator/Economic Development Manager Brama noted that the property is not
currently zoned for business park and therefore would need to come back for rezoning in the
future.
3. MAYOR / COUNCIL / STAFF INPUT
Mayor Strommen stated that Friends of the Mississippi River will be touring a site in Elk River
this weekend and will be stopping in Ramsey at the Wayside from 11:30 to 12:30 on Saturday
for lunch. She asked if any members from the Council or staff would be available to attend. It
was noted that no one was available to attend.
City Administrator Ulrich noted that the CIP will be on the agenda for the next Council Work
Session.
5.
