Staff <br />is rcq ucsti ng direction fi'om l l1¢ Co~,maittee as to the possibility of using the vehicle for staff use. <br />Thc payo I'f' on the vehicle is $600, ~;nd approximately $1,000 would likely need to be put into the <br />vehicle. The vehicle does have Crand new brakes and there are about 75,000 miles on the <br />vehicle. For thc c~)st of approximately $1,500, they may be able to get two to four years of use <br />out of'thc vchictc. The vehicle he i'; driving at the time has about 85,000 miles on it. To fix one <br />of the squad ca~-s costs a lot of mon(;y, while a Lexus is not high end in repair costs. If the Lexus <br />is kept Ibr slal'l~ use a diff'crcnt w~hicle would be sold or filtered through for use by other <br />employees. ~l'hc (¢it¥ has kept somz o~her drug seized vehicles in the past. Another question to <br />consider is thc pe~-ception r>l' seeinr~; a staff person driving a Lexus. He suggested it could be <br />announced in the/4c~m.v~ Rc'~xic/e~t l~ow the vehicle was acquired. <br /> <br />Councilmembcr Zi mmerman noted this was done before when the City seized a vehicle, and the <br />vehicle is being used for Cily businc~ss. <br /> <br />I'olicc ()hicC Way explained the o[hct' alternative would be to sell the vehicle and the profit <br />would go into thc drug forl?eiture i'uncl. The blue book value of the vehicle is approximately <br />$3,000.
