THE STATUS OF CONTRACTING OUT <br /> IN <br /> THE CITY OF RA~SEY <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey currently 'Contracts Out' for several services, <br /> <br />some of which are: <br /> <br />Animal Control <br />Legal Services <br />Building Repair <br />Purchasing <br />Printing and Binding Services <br />Labor Relations A~vice <br />Tree Stump Removal <br />Financial Advisor (bonds) <br />Fire Protection <br /> <br />Building Maintenance <br />Engineering Services <br />Computer Programming <br />Lawn Mowing <br />Marketing Studies <br />Independent Auditing <br />Major Equipment Repair <br />Loss Control (insurance) <br /> <br />Other cities have become involved in providing services which are <br />not always considere(! public in nature but may be construed as <br />contracting out by some people if not performed by local <br />government. The Cit~ Ramsey does not provide any of these <br />services !n house so it may be construed that these services are <br /> <br />also "Contracted Out': <br /> <br />Electric Service <br />Cable Television ~er'~ice <br />Solid Waste Collection <br />Ambulance Service <br /> <br />Liquor Sales <br />Airport Service <br />Rospital Service <br />Natural Gas Distribution <br /> <br />The attached repo)t "Issues in Contracting for Public <br />Services from Privat~ Sector" suggests that the first step for <br />every local gover;~e~,t contemplating contracting a new service, <br />expanding an existing service, or simply switching from <br />government to privat( provision is to investigate the pros and <br />cons of contracting in a "Do or Buy" Study.
