Answered: 18 Skipped: 11( Responses Date 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 I have a MAJOR problem with the special black dirt requirement in the city of Ramsey. I fully understand the need for black dirt on top of the sand so as to retain water, but I don't feel that you should MAKE me pay the outrageous cost of that "special" dirt when I am on a private well. I am pulling my water from bedrock groundwater, as are my neighbors who are watering their sand yard WITHOUT repercussions from the city, while I'm shelling out thousands for "special" dirt. Did you know that if you required a layer of clay topped with any kind of black dirt you would retain more water than the MNDOT dirt does? And clay is cheap. [Comment redacted for personnel reasons. Staff will follow up internally.] If there was any way, shape or form that I could pick my new house up and move it to another city, I would. How sad. My experience with the Ramsey Community Development Department's Building Division has been positive. The individuals reviewing the plans and inspecting have been timely and helpful. I would have loved to have received a survey on the Planning Division instead of the Building Division. My survey feedback would be the direct opposite of the positive review for the Building Division. I have found the Planning Division to be uninformed as to many of the city codes and less than helpful. Based on my two experiences the problem appears to be stemming from the lack of leadership in the department. Tim Gladhill may have the title of director, however, he does not act as though he is "working together to responsibly grow our community, and to provide quality, cost-effective and efficient government services". Reminding the Planning Division of the City of Ramsey's mission statement may help as it does not align with their actions. THE PEOPLE IN THE BUILDING PERMIT OFFICE WERE VERY HELPFULL WITH ANY QUESTIONS I HAD. GOOD JOB!! The plan review, permit process and inspections on my recent project (deck) went very smooth. Everyone involved was very helpful and responsive. Take more time and details to explain and guide home owner. We dont do this enough to figure of the process of rough in and final and the details. Maybe a youtube video of each basic inspection Currently not working in the city nor have I renewed my city license due to the long process... not time or cost effective. Thanks for asking! You do a fantastic job for your community! highly suggest having a online website for the permit process Permit fees are too high. [Comment altered: Erosion control inspection process is unreasonable. We add thousands of dollars to our Ramsey bids just because of this process]. 12 Ramseys permit dept has been very pleasant and helpful. There are a few city halls i walk into and just feel unliked or disregarded. Kind of like they dont want to see me. Im sorry but we are forced to go there to get permits and we dont get to choose who works there. They do lol. 13 I like your people, all very friendly and reasonable thus far. Thank you for your efforts! :) 14 More options for the filling out the survey...Business Owner or Facility Manager. The forms are all saved as a PDF, I understand why, but not everyone can modify a PDF. It can difficult. In other words, make sure people can edit/enter data into the forms on a computer. Keep the documents in Word or Excel. The process really doesn't seem too bad from my perspective.
