June 23, 2016 Commissioner Mary Tingerthal Office of the Commissioner Minnesota Housing Finance Agency 400 Sibley Street, Suite 300 Saint Paul, MN 55101 SUBJECT: Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity — Ramsey, MN Dear Commissioner Tingerthal: The City of Ramsey extends this Letter of Support for Habitat for Humanity's application for MHFA funds to assist them with a scattered -site revitalization program throughout the area. It is our understanding the Habitat is looking to do one (1) to two (2) single-family home revitalizations, either detached or attached (townhome unit). Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has worked with the City in the past to develop simple, decent and affordable homes on lots made vacant by the foreclosure crisis and its aftermath. Going forward, TC Habitat plans to build additional homes on lots in Anoka County that will provide affordable homeownership opportunities to low -to -moderate income households. The City's Housing Plan sets out a goal to provide a variety of housing options for people at all life stages and income levels to encourage existing and future residents to stay in Ramsey throughout their lives and to achieve a balanced housing supply. The proposed project is just one part of this puzzle by providing a housing type and price that is affordable to many of our existing residents without the need to look to other communities for housing options. Additionally, the City's Housing Assistance Policy ranks affordable or workforce housing as our second highest priority of housing need. Finally, the Metropolitan Council has forecasted an affordable housing need for Ramsey of nearly 500 units by the year 2040. The proposed project will help achieve this goal, which will require the continued partnerships with organizations such as MHFA.
