Council actions to leverage the Office of Transit -Oriented Development to expand affordable <br />housing <br />p Work with our community partners to develop and provide the mechanisms and financial <br />resources to strategically acquire property for future development of affordable housing <br />that provides TOD-supportive land use and leverages private investment. <br />* Track and protectuneubeidized affordable housing near transit investments. <br />Preferred SUsta/nahility Status <br />As port ofthe federal Partnership for Sustainable Communities, the U.S. Department <br />of Housing and Urban Development (HUC)created Preferred Suetainabi|ityStatuo. City <br />applicants for some federal grants, particularly through HUD, may apply tothe Council -- <br />which was the recipient of the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant—fortwo <br />additional bonus points. Preferred Suetainabi|ity Statue is intended to encourage ongoing <br />sustainability efforts beyond the HUD -funded projects. Under current federal policy, <br />Preferred Suotainabi|ityStatus ioscheduled tosunset atthe end of2010. <br />To be eligible for Preferred Suotainabi|itv Status pointo, the application must demonstrate <br />consistency with the six livability principles developed by the federal Sustainable <br />Communities Partnership, one of which is promoting equitable affordable housing.
