5 Minutes CASE ~6:

STATUS OF AIRPORT SAFETY ZONING REFERENDUM
By: Dave Hartley, City Administrator

Background:

Previously the City Council requested that the Airport Commission recommend to
the City Council the appropriate timing and/or action relating to the
establishment of airport safety zoning. The Airport Commission reportedly
feels that an advisory referendum at this time is inappropriate since the
complete data on the acceptability of the airport upgrading and acquisition is
not available, nor recommended at this time. The Commission recommends that:

· I) The City Council adopt the airport zoning ordinance;
2) The City Council delay the referendum until the environmental impact
assessment report, relocation plan, and preliminary engineering report
/preapplication for AIP funds are available;
3) If, in Council's estimation an advisory referendum is required, it
should be held no earlier than the second quarter of 1988 when the
data listed in Item ~2 above is available and the acquisition plan is
submitted for approval.

Recommendation:

Council action will be to discuss.

Review Checklist:

Administrator
Attorney
Engineer
Community Development Director

,X

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Airport Commission

X
