CASE ~11: REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO MIRE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INTERN TO COMPLETE STAR CIT~ TASKS Background: At its meeting on November 24, the Economic Development Commission recommended that the City Council authorize the hiring of a temporary position, an economic development intern, to help complete the Star City tasks. In addition, the Commission has appointed a Star City Work Program Committee to coordinate the completion of the remaining Star City tasks. The Commission has recommended that an individual, Yvonne Curran, a Ramsey resident, be hired as an intern to help complete the remaining Star City tasks. Ms. Curran has a Bachelors' degree in business and she has been active in various community economic development activities. She has most recently been involved as a volunteer coordinator of the Discover Ramsey Business Expo. The Commission's recommendation includes hiring Ms. Curran at $7.25 per hour (consistent with the pay range for a skilled technical position) for ten hours per week for a period of time not to exceed six months. Ms. Curran will be working with the Commission on the following Star City tasks: Task Completion Date Community Profile 5 Year Economic Development Work Plan 1 Year Economic Development Action Plan Capital Improvement Plan Fact Booklet Labor Survey May 1, 1988 May i, 1988 May 1, 1988 May 1, 1988 May 1, 1988 May 1, 1988 Mr. Steve Gorecki, Economic Development Commissioner, will be at the meeting to answer any questions the Council may have on this recommendation. Ob s ervat ions: As the Council recalls, approximately $18,000 was allocated for personal services for 1987 economic development activities. The Commission is recommending that approximately $2,500 of these funds be used to pay for the economic development intern. Recommendation: Council Action: Motion to: Authorize the hiring of Yvonne Curran for a six month period as an economic development intern to complete the Star City tasks.
