POLICY <br /> <br />Relationship to Other City Personnel <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the potential for conflicts of interest are increased when <br />personnel who are related are employed by the same employer; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, real or implied conflicts of interest can result in distrust and <br />a general lack of harmony among other employees. <br /> <br /> NOW ~'HEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED TtlAT; the following policy be established <br />guiding the future employment and assignment practices of the City of Ramsey <br />es they relate to regular full-time or regular part-time employees. This <br />policy does NOT suggest or imply similar restrictions on the hiring of <br />temporary.full-time or tempory part-time employees. <br /> <br />R~lationshio to Other City Personnel <br /> <br />Whenever possible, and with due regard for job-relevant <br />qualifications, merit and fitness, the employer shall avoid the <br />appointment of any person related to an appointed officer or <br />regular full-time or regular part-time employee of the City. <br />Appointments or assignments of persons related to an employee in <br />the same department in which the employee works is <br />prohibited. <br /> <br />This provision does not apply to marital status, as protected <br />under the Minnesota Human Rights Act. Employment of the spouse <br />of an elected or appointed officer or employee is not prohibited; <br />however, appointments or assignments of an employee's spouse in <br />the same department in which the employee works is <br />prohibited. <br /> <br />Appointment to a position in the municipal service shall not be <br />construed to be a property right of the employee. All employees <br />whose positions are covered by this policy are appointed by and <br />serve at the sole discretion of the employer. <br /> <br /> <br />
