U~e cf Chemicals:
Good cultural practices ~hou!d first be attempted prior to conditioning
chemhcal controls of weeds, diseases, and insects. The~e would include proper
mowing l:eigb~, correct ~rrJg. atJon, maintaining ~dequate fertilize:ion, ~nd
~electing weed-free ~ed or ~old. The choice of control method ~hould be
predicated on ~afety, both to the applicator, public, and the environment, and
to its proven effeotiveness and how economical it is.

If an)' chemical is used, it shall only be applied under the direction of a
licensed applicator in accordance with manufacturer's precaution,.s and
directions amd approved industry practice.

Weed Control:
.The need to control wee~s in turf areas is when weeds present a visible
problem. In mo~t areas, weed control will be limited to controlling noxious
weeds.

Treat weeds only when soil moisture levels are good and when weeds are
actively growing. Most broadleaf weeds in turf areas should be eliminated in
mid to late spring or ear.~y summer by one or t~'o applications of 2, 4, 5-TP,
MCPP, bicamba, or a combination of these chemicals. 2, 4-D, and related
compounds can be applied as a dry formulation with fertilizer or other
C~.-r ierc .

Prevention of crabgrass and pos annua should begin in mid to late April
utilizing preemergence applications of Bensulide, Benefin, DCPA, or
equivalent. If preemergen', ci~ica!$ are n~: applied, postemcrgent =ateria!~
such as the organic arsenicals (!M~SA, DS}ik) should be used in late spring cr
early summer.

Insect, Rodent, and Disease Contre!:
An insect, rodent, or disease ccntro! program to prevent a!! co.~on turfgrass
· ~ ~'-~ se-ions damage will be provided
znsects, rodents, and disease f.~_ caus.~ ~
~ - ._ Wh insecticides -re used, they should be
~.~y on an ~s needed ~a~: s. em ~
~!ied.. ~ late ~:-~-_-_. or ~zr' f-!~ . when inse~ts are young. . and easily killed.
~ae most ~ractical appreach to disease control is to use the best adapted
=oecies. cr disease resistant ~='~-;=-~s cf .... .... =grasses,

'~'atering ami lrrigatio=

adecuate moisture
to: hand wa~ering, oper='icu of
'. .....
