2015 COLLECTIONS <br /> The ACHS Exhibit Hall <br /> The Tell Me a Story exhibit continued to feature a rotating <br /> selection of artifacts and personal interest stories.One of the <br /> most significant artifacts on display this year was a section of , <br /> wall from the Dan Law's Barbeque with a painted mural of Dan <br /> at his grill(right).This piece came to the ACHS from the City of <br /> Ramsey and has proven useful in the creation of a QCTV <br /> episode discussing not only the story of a local business and its <br /> highly respected owner,but also the conservation needs of <br /> collection items. <br /> The 3D collection <br /> held by a museum T <br /> ought to create <br /> points of resonance <br /> with visitors,tell a <br /> story,and preserve <br /> an obsolete way of <br /> life.The wire grass harvested by the Crex Carpet Company in <br /> the early 1900s,and the ensuing rugs and furniture built from it, <br /> stand as a perfect example.While we know a good deal about <br /> the company and its operations in Columbus,ACHS did not <br /> have anything made from this grass until November of 2015 <br /> when Christian and Susan Cold offered us their yard sale find. <br /> Personal memory of an object and its attachment to place also <br /> help to determine what we include in the exhibit hall.By <br /> showcasing artifacts of significance to the community they <br /> originate in,like the grandfather clock from the Weaver family <br /> that once stood in the Woodbury House,ACHS can tell more <br /> than one story at a time.In this particular case,museum patrons <br /> also experience its musical chimes marking the passing of time. <br /> The Tell Me a Story exhibit will close in 2016 to provide space <br /> for the conversation surrounding Suburbanization.Within this topic,we can <br /> explore the growth and change of Anoka County in housing,schools,and <br /> transportation,the shift of perception and ideas,technology and medicine,as <br /> well as the creation of clubs and social organizations. <br /> I had great questions and an amazing response from students <br /> when I gave our Civil War programs at Anoka Middle <br /> School.I learned from the teacher afterwards that for one of <br /> the students, it was his first question all year.
