The pro- <br />posed silos fall within the existing 20:1 approach surface. As <br />proposed, the silos would penetrate the approach surface by <br />approximately 3.5'. The silos would, thus, be an obstruction for <br />existing airport operations. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />Proposed perimeter screening materials for the operation are picea <br />and pinus species. Mature heights of these are generally in the <br />60-75' range for picea and 45-55' for pinus species. It is pro- <br />posed by the applicant ~o plant screenln~ ~aterial on a berm a!eng <br />the north side of CSAH 116 at elevations ranging from 880 to 895. <br />While this would not pose an immediate problem to airport opera- <br />tions, (assuming the initial height of materials to be six to <br />eight feet), the proposed plantings would penetrate the existing <br />approach surface after reaching approximately 30-35' in height. <br />The plant screen is proposed for the entire width of the approach <br />zone. All material penetrating the existing approach path would <br />be an obstruction, and would require topping the trees to maintain <br />them at a height below the approach path. This is generally an <br />undesireable horticulture practice, particularly with conifers due <br />to disfiguration of the trees. <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />The proposed operation potentially may emit dust and/or steam in <br />sufficient quantities so as to be a hazard to safe flight opera- <br />tions. <br /> <br />222 Monroe Street <br />Anoka, Minnesota 55303 <br /> <br />612/427-5860 <br /> <br />Eugene J.
