Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmsmbers Sorteberg, Pearson <br /> <br />~ _Appo_ intY]~a__upoint Cc~mi~sion M~mbers: <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />Rea__upoin~ Benjamin Deemer and James Howell to the Planning and Zoning <br />C~,~s~ion to serve four year term~ to expire December 31. 1990 - <br /> <br />Mr. Ken Peterson - Stated that it has been brought to Planning and Zoning's <br />attention that there may be a possibility that City Council will be <br />reconsidering reappointment of C(mm%tssioner Deemer. Mr. Peterson stated that <br />Cc~missioner Deemer has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 8 <br />years and in that time has only missed two meetings. During that time, Mr. <br />~-~er has also served on various other special City committees, subcommittees <br />within the C(~mission and joint subcommittees with other commissions. Mr. <br />Peterson stated that Mr. Deemer, being a local developer and active member in <br />co~mmnity youth associations, provides a vital part to the Planning Commission. <br />Mr. Peterson noted that Mr. Deemer may not always please members of City <br />Council but he is a hard worker and enjoyable to work with; urge Council to <br />vote in favor of Mr. Deemer's reappointment to the Co~mission. <br /> <br />Mr. Gerald Zi~merman - 7550 163rd Lane N~ - Stated that in his 10-12 years on <br />the Planning Cxmmdssion he has seen a lot of members come and go; although <br />Council may not like Mr. Deemer's appearance or remarks, he is one of the <br />better members to have served on the Co~mission. Council should keep in mind <br />that Mr. Deemer's vote is only 1 in 7 and he does not attempt to influence the <br />other voting members. Mr. Zimmerman stated that Mr. Deemer makes a good <br />Planning and Zoning member. <br /> <br />Mr. Roy Shumway - 7530 163rd Lane NW - Stated that he has served on the <br />Planning Cxm~ission for over a year and was just recently appointed to the Park <br />and Recreation C(mmdsston also. Mr. Shu~way stated that Mr. Deemer is also an <br />excellent teacher of new m~pbers to the Planning Cc~mission and helps th~m help <br />the City. Mr. Shu~way urged City Council to seriously consider Mr. Deemer's <br />reappointment to the Planning Ccmm%ission. <br /> <br />Mr. Terry ~endriksen - 15631 Ramsey Blvd. ~ - Mr. Hendriksen urged City <br />Council to reappoint Mr. ~--aer to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Mr. <br />Hendriksen stated that he does not always agree with Mr. Deemer but those <br />disagreements are worked through and result in a better answer with the City <br />benefitting. Mr. Hendriksen stated that Mr. Deemer has served the community <br />well and those instances where he opposed Mr. Deemer initially, only to find <br />out Mr. Deemer was right, have ~cn an educational experience. <br /> <br />Mr. Charles LaDue - 6716 158th Avenue NW'- Stated that in the years he has <br />served with Mr. Deemer, he has not found anyone on the Commission, past or <br />present, that is more knowledgeable, better prepared or dedicated to service as <br />a c~m~issioner than Mr. ~cmer. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember COx and seconded by Councilma~ber DeLuca to reappoint <br />Mr. James Howell to the Planning and Zoning Commission to serve a four year <br />term to expire December 31, 1990. <br /> <br />City Council/January 6, 1987 <br /> <br />Page 4 of 12 <br /> <br /> <br />
