CASE #3: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR VARIANCE FROM SECTION 170.05 OF THE CITY CODE <br /> REGARDING SIGN SIZE; CASE OF RAMSEY CARPET CO. <br /> By: Community Development Director Anne Norris <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Mr. Gary Ditschler of Ramsey Carpet Company is requesting a variance to <br />install a 3' x 20' identification sign on the face of his storefront at <br />5924 167th Avenue N.W. in the Rum River Plaza. Section 170.055C of the <br />City Code states that all wall and roof signs shall not exceed 15% of the <br />total area of that wall. A~cording to the City Code, all of the Rum River <br />Plaza shopping center would be permitted 285 square feet of wall signage on <br />the north side. The Building Official has allocated a percentage of this <br />total signage to each retail space within the center. This allocation. <br />allows a certain amount of sign for each square foot of wall area. <br />According to the Building Official's calculations and formula, Mr. <br />Ditschler has approximately 960 square feet of wall area, allowing him a <br />maximum wall sign of approximately 46 square feet.
