CASE $4: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR VARIANCE FROM SECTION 170.05 OF THE CITer CODE <br />REGARDING SIGN SIZE; CASE OF HOUSE OF VIDEO <br /> By: Community Development Director Anne Norris <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />House of Video is requesting a variance to install a 3' x 26' <br />identification sign on the face of their storefront at 5900 I67th Avenue <br />N.W. in the Rum River Plaza. Section 170.055C of the City Code states that <br />all wall and roof signs shall not exceed 15% of the total area of that <br />wall. According to the City Code, all of the Rum River Plaza shopping <br />center would be permitted 285 square feet of wall signage on the north <br />side. The Building Official has allocated a percentage of this toal <br />signage to each retail space within the center. This allocation permits a <br />certain amount of signage for each square foot of wall area. According to <br />the Building Official's calculations and formula, House of Video has <br />approximately 1,520 square feet of wall area, allowing them a maximum sign <br />of 73 square feet.
