ANOKA <br />CO <br /> <br />CHAMBE <br /> <br />COMMERCE <br /> <br />Business Leadership To Strengthen Your Community <br /> <br />LEGISLATIVE <br /> <br />Two major pieces of legislation deserve your attention. <br /> <br />ALERT. <br /> <br />flAY 1 I 1987 <br />Ans'd. <br /> <br />First is the issue of Unemployment Compensation. <br /> <br />The Anoka County Chamber of Commerce opposes the Unemployment Compensation Bill authored by <br />Representative Phil Riveness and Senator FIorian Chemielewski. In many respects this bill is worse than <br />current law ..... <br /> <br />This bill would: <br /> <br />· Raise the maximum rate for employers from 7.5% to 8.5%. <br /> <br />· Make it easier for employees to qualify for benefits. Individuals would need to make $1,250 in two quarters. <br /> <br />· Establishes a 10% surtax if fund drops below $50 million dollars. <br /> <br />This bill will most likely make it to the floor of the House and Senate if the legislators do not <br />hear from you, the Business Community ..... <br /> <br />We urge you to contact your. local legislator. Let them know you oppose House File 284 and Senate File <br />1161, the Unemployment Compensation Bill authored by Representative Phil Riveness and <br />Senator Florlan Chemlelewski. <br /> <br />Please contact Tom Snell, Anoka County Chamber (755-1130) if you need the name and telephone number of <br />your legislator. <br /> <br />INCREASE IN METRO COMMERCIAL PROPERTY TAXES <br /> <br />Significant numbers of metro business owners will pay higher commercial property taxes under proposed tax bill <br />House File 942 and Senate File 889. <br /> <br />Some small companies might be helped because of this legislation.
