Both units are
available from Kustom Signal Inc, under State Contract. The Kustom Signal Pro Laser
Ill is $ 3,846.18; the Kustom Signal Eagle radar runs $ 1,824.81. Both include tax &
shipping

The police department is also requesting the purchase of a Millennium LED light bar
from 911 EP under State Contract to replace one of our existing light bars. This unit
costs approximately
$ 2,40O.OO.

The police department would also like to utilize money from the Equipment
Replacement Fund to purchase (1) additional M-16 rifle ($ 1,600) and (5) GIock
handguns ($ 2,439) from Streichers Inc. With the recent shooting incident, (2) of our
guns were out of service and held as evidence. This shorted our patrol (2) guns. This
rifle would be an additional unit. We have also been in the process of issuing dept
owned duty handguns to our officers. All of our guns are currently funded for
replacement under the Equipment Replacement Fund. In 2005 any minor equipment
item under $ 5,000 will be removed from this fund; departments will be ~asked to add
replacement items to their line item requests. To avoid a large line item increase in
2005 for theSe guns, we are requesting Council approve the purchase of these guns
this year utilizing the $ 4,100.00 of accumulated depreciation currently in the Equipment
Replacement Fund.

On a final note, the building maintenance department would like to replace the vacuum
cleaner at the PD. The cost of the unit is approximately $ 425.00.

The total for the above purchases would be $12,595.99. In speaking with the Finance
Director, there is sufficient money in the Police Equipment Replacement Fund to cover
$ 11,216.44 of these purchases. The remaining $ 1,379.55 would be funded from
Vehicle Capital and line item accounts.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends the purchase of the fore mentioned equipment for the police
department utilizing $11,216.44 of accumulated depreciation in the Equipment
Replacement Fund. There is sufficient money under Vehicle Capital .and line items
accounts to cover the remaining $1,379.55.

-91-
