The Executive Committee (Officers and Committee Chairs) met with the incoming Executive Committee to effect an orderly transi- tion. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact Greg Bradbury and indicate your area of interest. The Minnesota Department of Energy and Economic Development has asked our organization for volunteers for their Star City Pro- gram. For a city to complete its certificate a simulated marketing presenlation is made by it to a prospect. The department is looking for individuals who are experienced in industrial development to listen to and evaluate the City's presentation. The presentation takes two to three hours and the participant is paid an honorarium of $100.00. If you are interested please call James Lushine at (612) 296-5009. Please copy me on your correspondence to Mr. Lushine. Preparations for our All Day Seminar to be held on March 17, 1987 at the Sheraton Park Place are well under- way. Our sponsorship fundtaising ef- fort is lead by Chuck Tuehfarber. We appreciate the many fine companies that have supported our legislative ef- forts. We again need your help for NAIOP to have a successful legislative program. The momentum is building for Pro- perry Tax Reform. This is the year for tturry J. }'qf. fe Minnesota to move out of its in- famous #1 position. Though I only have a couple of months re- maining in my term, there are miles to go before I sleep. Some of the upcoming highlights are the Awards of Excellence, Developer of the Year, All Day Seminar, Directory publication (May lst), and the Annual Dinner. The previously mentioned items will require the time and effort of at least 60 volunteers and staff. I have had excellent feedback on Leanne Lachman's presentation. Her report was informative, though depressing -- 30 million 4acant square feet of tech space in the Silicon Valley and only 3 healthy of- rice markets out of 341 included in her study. Steve Hoyt delivered another full house -- 400 attendees. As a subcommitee of the Legislative Commitee, Al Beisner has agreed to chair a Long Range Planning Committee. We are the premier Real Estate organization in the Twin Cities and Al's guidance and input will insure the Chapter's success and effec- tiveness well into the 1990's. Al has been a member of the Legislative Committee forever. He coordinates an informal group consisting of representatives of other real estate related organiza- tions. Downtown Minneapolis is on the move and I am excited about this month's panel. Our center cities are alive and well. - If you think one year ahead - sow a seed. - - If you think ten years ahead - plant a seed. - If you think a hundred years ahead - educate the people. RELOCATES BAI, a civil/structural engineering and landscape architectural consulting firm has relocated its Minneapolis office to 123 North Third Street, Suite 801, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401. RYAN ADDS STAFF, PROMOTES FRITZ Jim Hileman, Minneapolis, Minn. and James O. Schuweiler, Eagan, Minn., have joined the professional staff of Ryan Construction Co. as pro- ject engineers. Hileman will be responsible for coordinating client construc- tion activities among architects, engineers, sub-contractors and project superinlendents on selected Ryan projects. Schuweiler has been assigned to thc company's interior division and will be responsible for selected tenant leasehold construction. And Steve W. Fritz, Eden Prairie, Minn., has been promoted to construction superintendent/field coordinator. UNITED PROPERTIES ADDS SMITH Mona .1. Smith has joined United Properties as a Leasing Associate. Mona is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Mona comes to United Properties from St. Louis, Missouri where she was a leasing representative with Turco Development Company. GROUND BREAKING FOR AUTO SUPERSTORE Ground was broken recently for the first Crown Auto Superstore at 8651 Lyndale Ave. So. in Bloomington, Minnesota. Lowell J. Wagner, President of Wagner Corporation, the developer of the project, said construction of the 14,500 square foot building will be completed by May of this year. The Superstore, over twice the size of a conventional Crown Auto Store, will have 8 service bays and over 7,800 square feet of retail space. Financing during construction is provided by National City Bank and permanent financing by Northern Life Insurance Company. Financing was arranged b~ Jon Dahlin of the Eberhardt Company.
