This year
the funding levels are complicated because Congress has not yet passed the funding
bill for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LAWCON). In fact, the House has
recommended no dollars for the State side of the Fund and the Senate will not take
up the issue until they return from the August recess. It is very likely, that the
federal funding level will be far lower than last year.

In order to allow the largest number of grants to be awarded as early as
possible, state funds will be distributed to the highest ranked projects first. Should
federal funds become available, they will be distributed to the next group of projects.

Your project has been programmed for a state grant. (Subject to State limits
and eligibility requirements.)

Please note that this does not constitute final approval. Consequently do not
begin any spending on this project. ANY WORK DONE, MONEY SPENT, OR
OBLIGATIONS INCURRED FOR ACOUISITION OR DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES BEFORE
APPROVAL OF THE FINAL APPLICATION CANNOT LEGALLY BE PAID WITH GRANT
FUNDS OR USED AS THE LOCAL SHARE.

The next step is for you to prepare a final application.
approved upon satifactory completion of the final application.
receive further approval by the National Park Service (NPS).

State grants will be
Federal grants must

To assist you in the preparation of your final application, a'meeting has been
scheduled on Tuesdays September 15, from 10 a.m. until noon in Conference Room 3,
9th Floor, American Center Building. Attendance at this meeting is strongly urged.
At this meeting~ the Final Application Manual will be handed out and discussed.
Funding work sheets will also be made available detailing grant amounts.

If you have any questions on this matter, please call Gretchen Blank, Outdoor
Recreation Grants Director, at (612) 296-5005.

Sincerely,

David 3.
