Section I <br /> <br />THE TRADITIONAL GRANT PROGRAM <br /> <br />Eligible Applicants <br /> <br />Eligible applicants include cities, counties, towns, and special park districts or elected <br />park or recreation boards in cities of the first class. Recognized Indian Tribal <br />governments are eligible applicants for LAWCON assistance and may become eligible <br />for state grants, contingent on legislative action. <br /> <br />Eligible Projects: <br /> <br />Acquisition of land for future development as an outdoor recreation facility and/or the <br />development of outdoor recreation facilities on land owned by the applicant. <br />Acquisition projects must be developed within 3 years of project closure. <br /> <br />As a condition for receiving a LAWCON/sLate grant, the local applicant must agree to <br />retain ownership and maintain the assisted parkland for public outdoor recreation uses <br />into perpetuity. <br /> <br />Eligible Facilities <br /> <br />Facilities which are considered eligible for traditional grant funds include: <br /> <br />· Trails (hiking, biking, ski touring, nature observation, equestrian) <br />· Boat and/or canoe accesses <br />· Fishing piers <br />· Swimming beaches <br />· Campgrounds <br /> <br />While eligible for LAWCON/state funding, the following athletic facilities are a very <br />low priority, Applicants interested in developing these facilities should refer to the <br />blue Athletic Facilities Grant Application, <br /> <br />· Baseball and/or softball fields <br />· Football fields <br />· Soccer fields <br />· Basketball courts <br />· Tennis courts <br />· Volleyball courts (hard surface) <br />· Outdoor skating/hockey rinks <br /> <br />Eligible Support Facilities <br /> <br />It is our experience that projects for support facilities alone rarely rank high enough <br />for funding, <br /> <br />· Park roads <br />· Parking areas <br /> <br /> <br />
