Department of Energy & Economic Development <br />Community Development Division <br /> Outdoor Recreation Grants Program <br /> <br />PRELIMINARY APPLICATION RANKING DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />TRAILS <br /> <br />Bicycle Path <br /> <br />Hiking Trail <br /> <br />Walking Paths <br /> <br />Horse Trails <br /> <br />Cross Country <br />Ski Trails <br /> <br />4" crushed stone or bituminous surface 8' - 12' wide, fairly level <br />terrain - grades should not exceed 10% with 4-8% for short <br />intervals only <br /> <br />Generally 5+ miles in length, taking maximum advantage of scenic <br />views. Maximum sustained gradients of no more than 10%. 6-8' <br />width with 2' absolute minimum based on topography and <br />vegetation. Natural surface in most areas. Bituminous as needed <br />in heavily used areas. No motorized vehicles. <br /> <br />Generally .5 to 5 miles in length. 2-4t in width, natural or paved <br />surface as conditions require. Fairly level topography. <br /> <br />Signed trails of 2-20 miles with grades to a maximum of 15%. <br />Natural surface and separate from hiking/motorized vehicles, <br />Could be used for snowmobiling in winter. 4' (one way) to 10' <br />(two way) width desirable. <br /> <br />Must be signed and groomed in winter. Loops Of .5-10 miles <br />over varying terrain (1/3 uphill, 1/3 downhill, 1/3 flat), making <br />maximum use of scenery. Outruns must be provided at the base <br />of slopes. Grades fairly level for beginning, 8-10% maximum for <br />intermediate, 17-20% maximum for advanced. Broad curves. <br />Widths from 6-8' under 10% grade and 13' for grades over 10%. <br />Under snow surface should be free of obstacles. <br /> <br />Where one trail can be used in more than one way (e.g., biking/hiking), applicant will <br />be awarded points only for the highest ranking use. <br /> <br />WATER ACCESSES <br /> <br />Fishing Piers <br /> <br />Swimming Beaches <br /> <br />Handicapped accessible wherever possible. May extend into <br />waterway or along shoreline, dependent on water depth~ currents~ <br />etc. Handrails and sufficient size for ease of movement. No <br />points for courtesy docks at boat launching sites. <br /> <br />Underwater sand blanket at slopes of 5-10%, to a water depth of <br />6t. Above water 10t-40~ of sand blanket. Slopes of 2-5% and up <br />to 200t of grass with a maximum slope of 10%. <br /> <br /> <br />
