Absent:

MAYOR/COUNCIL INPUT

Discussion Of Recreational Burning Ordinance: Mrs. Heifort
stated that her neighbors are abusing the recreational burning
ordinance; that they are burning leaves, grass, etc. in their so-
called recreational fire~ that the smoke from their recreational
fire has set off the fire alarms in the Heifort hone; and that at
tines the Rotramel's leave their fire unattended. Mrs. Heifort
stated that on one particular evening the Police were called but
did not respond to the call. Mrs. Heifort inquired as to why
distance restrictions cannot be put on recreational fires as they
are put on burning permits.

Mayor Gamec stated that he has talked with Chief Auspos regarding
the particular evening in question and the police did have a
number of calls to answer but now that they know there is a
problem they will make every effort to respond. Mayor Ganec also
stated that he prefers to handle the matter in a way other than
amending the ordinance so as not to eliminate good users of the
recreational burning ordinance such as Campfire and Scouting
groups.

Council consensus is to authorize City Staff to send a letter to
the Rotramel's regarding complaints received on this misuse of
recreational burning ordinance with respect to size, height and
types of materials being burned; it is also recommended that
their recreational fire be relocated to a lower area so as not to
be caught by the wind.

City Attorney Goodrich
time.

and City Engineer Raaikka arrived at this

C/August 28, 1984
