ORDINANCE #04-25 <br /> <br /> CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 8 <br /> WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE BUILDING <br /> AND HOUSING CHAPTER OF THE CITY <br /> CODE OF RAMSEY, MINNESOTA. <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAP- <br /> TER 8 BY ADDING CHAPTER 13(J6, SUB- <br /> PART 3, NEW BUILDINGS WITH ITEM E, <br /> OPTION 1, IN THE MINNESOTA BUILD- <br /> ING CODE. <br /> Tim City of I~amsey ordains: <br /> SECTION 1. ~j~IENDMJ~ <br /> Chapter 8 of the Ramsey City Code is <br /> hereby amended with Ordinance #04-25 <br /> by adding Chapter 1306, Subpart 3, as <br /> letter "c'. (The current letter "c" <br /> becomes "FI" and so on.) The new letter <br /> 'c" shall read as follows: <br /> c. Chapter 1306 - Fire Suppression <br /> Systems (Subpart 3, New Buildings with <br /> Item E, Option 1) <br /> SECTION 2. PJ~._RI~OSJ~ <br /> The purpose of this amendment is ~o <br />provide long term public safety for the <br />future of our community, the safety of <br />our firefighters, and the economic stabili- <br />ty of the City of Ramsey. <br /> SECTION 3. SUMJMAI~y <br /> The following official summary of <br />Ordinance #04-25 has been approved by <br />the City Council of the City of Ramsey as <br />clearly informing the public of the intent <br />and effect of the Ordinance. <br /> It is the intent and effect of <br />Ordinance #04~25 to add reference to <br />Chapter 1306 to Chapter 8 of the City <br />Code, dealing with special fire protection <br />systems. This chapter allows the City to <br />require fire sprinklers in homes according <br />to what code they are built <br />Commercial structures would have a <br />lower threshold they would be held to (in <br />many cases to 2,000 square feet). <br />· Residential (reference to Option 1) New <br />Construction Only - Option 1 requires <br />sprinklers in all residential occupancies <br />that are greater than 8,500 square feet. <br />(This 8,500 square feet is the gross area <br />of the residence including all floors, base- <br />ments, and garages.) This would not <br />affect unattached one and two family <br />homes unless they are over 8,500 square <br />feet. <br /> SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE <br /> The effective date of this ordinance is <br />thirty (30) days after its passage and pub- <br />lication, subject to City Charter Section <br />5.07. <br /> Passed by the Ramsey City Council <br />this the 22nd day of June, 2004. <br />Thomas G.
