ORDINANCE #04-25 CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 8 WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE BUILDING AND HOUSING CHAPTER OF THE CITY CODE OF RAMSEY, MINNESOTA. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAP- TER 8 BY ADDING CHAPTER 13(J6, SUB- PART 3, NEW BUILDINGS WITH ITEM E, OPTION 1, IN THE MINNESOTA BUILD- ING CODE. Tim City of I~amsey ordains: SECTION 1. ~j~IENDMJ~ Chapter 8 of the Ramsey City Code is hereby amended with Ordinance #04-25 by adding Chapter 1306, Subpart 3, as letter "c'. (The current letter "c" becomes "FI" and so on.) The new letter 'c" shall read as follows: c. Chapter 1306 - Fire Suppression Systems (Subpart 3, New Buildings with Item E, Option 1) SECTION 2. PJ~._RI~OSJ~ The purpose of this amendment is ~o provide long term public safety for the future of our community, the safety of our firefighters, and the economic stabili- ty of the City of Ramsey. SECTION 3. SUMJMAI~y The following official summary of Ordinance #04-25 has been approved by the City Council of the City of Ramsey as clearly informing the public of the intent and effect of the Ordinance. It is the intent and effect of Ordinance #04~25 to add reference to Chapter 1306 to Chapter 8 of the City Code, dealing with special fire protection systems. This chapter allows the City to require fire sprinklers in homes according to what code they are built Commercial structures would have a lower threshold they would be held to (in many cases to 2,000 square feet). · Residential (reference to Option 1) New Construction Only - Option 1 requires sprinklers in all residential occupancies that are greater than 8,500 square feet. (This 8,500 square feet is the gross area of the residence including all floors, base- ments, and garages.) This would not affect unattached one and two family homes unless they are over 8,500 square feet. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE The effective date of this ordinance is thirty (30) days after its passage and pub- lication, subject to City Charter Section 5.07.
