COUNTY OF ANOKA
Office of the County Board of Commissioners

COURTHOUSE ANOKA, MINNESOTA 55303 612-421-4760

August ~, 1984

Mr. Lloyd Schnelle, Administrator
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W.
Anoka, Minnesota 5S303

Dear Mr. Schnelle:

As you know~ during the most recent legislative session, the State authorized
counties in the metropolitan area to begin assessing a fee on solid waste
received at landfills of up to 25¢ per cubic yard effective January i, 1985.
The possible uses for the money collected are outlined in the law, and they
are all for solid waste purposes, such as abatement activities and the closing
and care of landfills.

Anoka County is in the process of reviewing a proposed ordinance to impose a
fee of 250 per cubic yard of solid waste deposited at mixed municipal solid
waste disposal facilities in our County. The first public hearing on the
subject was conducted by the Anoka County Board of Commissioners on July
2zt, 198~, and that hearing was continued to 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday,
September 25, 198~t, when the matter will again be reviewed.

The purpose of. this letter is to inform you that the County Board is seriously
considering the collection of the 25¢ fee effective January I~ 1985. There
may be some impact because of this fee on amounts paid by citizens for
refuse disposal and on the budgets of local governments which have municipal
g~rbage collection. Please keep in mind that a 25¢ County fee would be in
addition to the State fee of 500 which Will be imposed and a 15¢ fee which
may be imposed by municipalities where landfil Is are located.

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to
contact me or Colleen Herrmann, Assistant County Attorney~ at ~21-~t760.

Sincerely,

County Administrator

JM:rad

CC.*

Col leen Herrmann
Tim Yantos
Bob Hutchison
Marcia Bennett

Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
