Hakanson Anderson Associates, Inc.

222 Monroe Street engineers and surveyors
A noka, Minnesota 55303 6] 2/427-5860

December 10, 1984

Honorable Mayor & City Council
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303

Re:

Improvement Projects 84-18 and 84-19
Street Construction
River's Bend and 149th Avenue N.W.

Dear Council Members:

In accordance with your advertisement for bids on the above referenced
projects, six (6) bids were received and opened at 11:00 a.m. today.
The bids were as follows:

Contractor

Total Bid

Forest Lake Contracting
H&S Asphalt Company
Alexander Construction Co.
Valley Paving, Inc.
Hardrives, Inc.
Buffalo Bituminous, Inc.

$385,513.00
$397,982.00
$429,988.05
$434,558.20
$476,219.50
$484,267.00

The engineer's estimated construction cost in the July 24, 1984
Feasibility Study for the projects was $400,320.00. Revising the
feasibility estimate to include 142nd Avenue as a permanent street
increased the estimated construction cost to $434,320.00. Based on
the revised estimate the low bid received is approximately eleven
percent below the engineer's estimate.

The low bidder, Forest Lake Contracting, has satisfactorily completed
projects in the area. We, therefore, recommend that the project be
awarded to the low bidder for the bid amount of $385,513.00. Since
149th Avenue is a MSAS, the project award should be made contingent on
approval of the plans by MN/DOT.

civil · municipal · planning · soils · land surveying
