Before the City considers additional, formal market research in the form of a Market
Study, Staff suggests the following steps be completed.
1. Completion of the planned Market Roundtable and Panelist Discussion
2. Review of existing market studies previously completed
Staff requested feedback from the Planning Commission on this item.
Commission Business
Vice Chairperson Bauer wanted to see the retail established within The COR become a
destination point.
Commissioner Andrusko agreed.
Commissioner Brauer discussed how the retail market was changing due to the growing impact
the internet was having on retailers. He anticipated that internet sales would continue to increase
while brick and mortar retail shops would decrease in size. He believed that high speed internet
access would be important to these new businesses.
Commissioner VanScoy believed it would benefit the Planning Commission to have updated
market data information.
Community Development Director Gladhill reviewed the data staff had collected to date. He
explained that staffing restraints would not allow for staff to gather updated market data
information, but rather this task would have to be hired out to a consultant.
Further discussion ensued regarding the data the Planning Commission was interested in
gathering.
Planning Commission/September 1, 2016
