Tr~s:

Bruce Bacon has ordered 1500 White Spruce, 1500 Norway Pine seedlings and 300 Ginnala
Maple shrubs for wildlife habitat from the Minnesota DNR. These trees are provided without
charge to municipalities for planting on City land and for distribution at an Arbor event. These
seedlings are with bare roots and will need to be individually packaged with compost in either a
milk carton or plastic bag. Mark Boos could provide some wood chips at the same time. Free
compost is available from the Anoka County Park site on Hanson Boulevard and we also have
wood chips at Central Park. The compost and wood chips will need to be transported to each
Arbor distribution site and two or three volunteers need to help with the packing at each site.

Ramsey Elementary school has 800 students and would need pre-packaged seedlings. The
Minnesota Forestry Association has six species of trees available with a soil plug, in a sealed
plastic pouch with instructions and identification attached. This is a durable and convenient
package suitable for distribution to children. (800 trees at 60¢ each = $480; if payment
accompanies order, there is a 10% discount which would amount to $432.)

Red Pine, White Cedar and White Spruce are the suggested species. Paper Birch, Green Ash and
Blue Spruce would be second choices.

BFB:ccr
