Keep Ramsey Clean Committee
An Affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc.
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303 (612)427.1410

March 28, 1991

Dear Public Relations Department:

The City of Ramsey is a rural & suburban mixed community located northwest of
the Twin City metropolitan area in Anoka County. Our current population is
approximately 13,000. The Keep Ramsey Clean Committee, affiliated with the
National Keep America Beautiful organization, is the only certified Keep America
Beautiful community in the State of Minnesota. We were certified in 1988 and
established as our goals litter reduction, recycling, and improvement of the
quality of life in our city.

To this purpose our Committee is formulating plans for an Environmental Expo to
be held on Saturday, April 27. The Expo will offer the citizens of Ramsey a
chance to increase their knowledge about topics pertinent to the issues of energy
conservation, environmental concerns, and recycling.

The format of the day will be as follows:

1. 25 booths have been made available to various organizations, businesses,
and individuals to provide information and educational materials to our
citizens on a variety of topics. There will be no charge for these
booths as we feel that some of the very information sources we desired
to attract would find any cost prohibitive.
2. Four (4) roundtable discussion groups have been scheduled dealing with
the following topics: woods/prairie ecology, composting & gardening,
wells & septic tanks, and recycling do's and donut's. Each of these
discussions will address pertinent concerns and then be open for questions
from attendees. We have encouraged members of our City Council to be
present at each of these discussions.
3. To encourage all residents to attend we are providing some type of
children's programs so parents will be able to glean as much information
as possible without distraction or interruption.

Because we did not want to discourage any participation by either exhibitors or
attendees, we are not charging any fees. Although this concept seems to be a
good one, we have found that we must seek outside donors to help defray the cost's
of this event. Estimated costs for the entire event are currently $3900.00. To
date we have received $350.00 in monetary donations and a number of goods for -
door prizes. It is very evident that we have a long way to go to attain our goal.

We are well aware of your company's commitment to environmental issues and concerns.
Would your company be willing to provide some financial support for this event?
We have various big ticket items which need financing as well as many miscella-
neous costs.

Minnesota's First Keep America Beautiful Community
