Hardware and software details
were determined through the following resources:

· preliminary Ramsey identification of needs
· research into existing (installed) and proposed municipal computer
systems
· consideration of comparable organization/agency and corporate computer
system configurations
· analysis of existing and projected personnel and municipal functions
· analysis of existing and projected data storage and retrieval
requirements
· identification of existing and projected telecommunications requirements

Intent of Bid Specification Items: The hardware items requested are based on a
minimum 5-year projection of needs, with special attention given to current
purchases considering economies of scale·

For example: While the requested 8 terminals and 4 printers may not be sufficient
in 10 years, all will be immediately used by existing staff. This configuration
reflects a cost-effective meeting of both short- and long-term personnel needs,
since additional terminals and printers could be added in the future at minimal cost.

By contrast, the large disk drive (data storage device) requested is clearly
oversized for Ramsey's requirements for at least 2-3 years. While smaller systems
are available, their individual cost, plus the electronic and mechanical requirements
of linking them in the future, outweighs the cost of purchasing the single, larger
drive at this time.

Ramsey Needs Assessment
Recommendations

Page
