The
standards presented are general guides and should not be accepted as absolute. They
should be adjusted to meet socio-economic conditions and variables present in any
area to be served. There is some authority for the position that an area cannot have
too many parks.

Using the guides as general comparative standards, a community can begin to assess
the adequacy of its park system. It should be kept in mind that these standards
reflect minimum, not ideal needs. A review of Ramsey's park system is based on a
1990 population of 12,408 and developable local park acreage of 100 acres.

The City currently has a total parks ratio of 8.06 (100/12.4) acres per 1000
population which is near the minimum range of community park standards. As the
population increases, the ratio would be as indicated assuming the following'

Population
Park acreage/1000 population
Projected surplus or (deficiency)
with 8.2 acres/1000

1990 1995 2000 2010

12,400 14,600 16,000 19,800
8.06 6.85 6.25 5.05

(2A) (20A) (31 A) (62A)

17
