Chairperson Stodola stated based on a newspaper article, he found ACE employs about 90
people. It is not a huge company, but it is a significant company.
Councilmember LeTourneau noted this Board seems to be more interested in having goals that
can be measured, rather than simply basing a decision on a relationship with a company.
City Planner Anderson suggested that a goal that the Board may wish to consider would be to
include organics as an option as that material makes up a large portion of the waste stream.
City Planner Anderson said he is hearing that there may not be a unanimous decision on this
item. It may be worth discussing measurable goals to help in the discussion.
The Board decided unanimously that goals should be discussed in order to consider this item
further.
Councilmember Hiatt asked if there are goals in the current contract.
City Planner Anderson replied there are not. The City has abided by the County's goals.
City Planner summarized the issues to be discussed so far include recycling service, measurable
goals, new opportunities and education. He said he will gather information and bring this item
back for discussion in July.
Board Member Valentine suggested adding customer service to the discussion.
Board Member Covert commented she likes the idea of using a local business. Businesses like
this do have other markets, but she mentioned a concern that the City could lose a company if
they didn't do business with them.
