I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I

City of Ramsey

16153 NOWTHEN BOULEVARD N.W., RAMSEY, MINNESOTA 55303 · {612) 427-1410

April 30, 1984

Department of Energy and Economic Development
Division of Community Development
Parks and Recreation Grants Unit
9th Floor- American Center Building
150 East Kellogg Boulevard
St. Paul, Minnesota 55101

To Whom It May Concern:

Once again we are applying for a grant to help develop Central Park as a major
active recreational area for the City of Ramsey. We are glad to see that at
least we won't be outright disqualified from the grant applications because this
park lies in the Rural Service Area. Let's hope, however, that it's not just a
game of semantics because your discouraging of a grant could be the same as
disqualifying a grant.

I
I
I

I
!
I
I
I

We in Ramsey are quite proud of how far Central Park has progressed this past
year. We have currently opened up parking lots and roads to the park. Four
excellent quality softball fields have been graded, infield ag-lime laid down and
the outfields have been seeded. This spring we are installing a high-capacity
well and sprinkling system for the fields.

As you well know, playing fields are in very high demand in our area. A Quad
Cities Recreation Advisory Committee was established this winter to try and
work out some solutions between Champlin, Anoka, Andover and Ramsey. The
problem is simply too many participants for too few fields. This problem is
especially serious in the fall when the shortened day light hours heighten the
need for lit fields. It was the committee's recommendation that each community
attach high importance to the development of lit soccer fields and football fields.
I have enclosed this position paper along with our letter.

As a result of both the Quad Cities recommendations and an evaluation of our
own existing facilities, we are applying for this grant. We hope that you can
help solve our problem and also the Quad Cities' problem of not enough developed
facilities.

We look forward to your preliminary inspection during the month of May. We
think you'll be pleased with our initial efforts on Central Park and we certainly
hope that you will see fit to help us develop it even further.

Sincerely,

I
I

CITY OF RAMSEY

Dennis Donovan f~,j
Chairman
Park and Recreation Commission
