I <br /> I <br />I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> Anoka County, Minnesota <br /> <br />DATE March 2'/~ 19~ TLESOLUTION NO, <br /> <br />OFFERED BY COIVIIVilSSIONER Haas, Langfeld ond Cenaiko <br /> <br />F~LATIhlG TO ANOKA COUKITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPM[NT ACTIVITIES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Anoka County Government is firmly committed to the <br />preservation and quality growth of a sound economic base within the County; ancL <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Commissioner Margaret Langfeld commenced an effort in January, <br />ID83, to determine ways and means Anoko County Government could enhance <br />economic development opportunities throughout Anoko County; ancL <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on October 19, 1983, Commissioner Langfeld asked the Anoka <br />County Board of Commissioners through Its Finance and Capital improvements <br />Committee to consider specific actions to solidify working relationships between <br />County, municipal and business entities involved in p~cx~oting economic development <br />and assist local development efforts; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the County Board responded requesting that representatives of local <br />Chambers of Commerce, economic development committees and economic <br />development professionals, political leaders of cities without economic development <br />functions, meet with County officials to jointly explore possible ways economic <br />development could be promoted within Anoka County; arxL <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to gather the thoughts of interested pc~ties a set{es of economic <br />development meetings were held with: (I) local governmental and business officials <br />and economic development professionals; (2) representatives of the bar&.ing community <br />of Anoka County; (3) City of St. Paul officials who have conducted successful <br />economic development activities; and (~,) advertising professionals with extensive <br />experience in promotional efforts; and~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, one common thought which emanated from the series of meetings is <br />that the Anoka County Government could play an important role in supporting the <br />economic development efforts of the County's municipalities and through actions <br />designed to complement and assist local efforts to attract and maintain business and <br />industry; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there exists o clear need in Anoka County for a Business Directory <br />and a Directory of Available Business Sites and Buildings for local officials use in <br />helping prospective and current companies relocate to ond expand in Anoka County= <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Anaka County Board of <br />Commissioners, as part of the County's commitment to economic development, does <br />hereby authorize an initial step to be the compilation of an Anoka County Business <br />Directory and an Anaka County Directory of Available Business Sites aod Buildings. <br /> <br /> RE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these inventories of businesses, buildings, and <br />siles shall be conducted as one of several possible positive approaches by the County <br />to supplement the efforts of local governmental and business communities in <br />maintaining a sound economic base. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the source of funding for these economic <br />development research ond promotional activities shall be the Community Development <br />Block Grant (C.D.B.C.) County Economic Development Project #377 in accordance <br />with applicable regulations. <br /> <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the <br />various individuals ~ entities currently involved in the economic development <br />planning process. <br /> <br /> <br />
