I
I

TO:

City Administrator

I
i
I
I
I
I

FROM: Public Works Superintendent

RE: Bids opened on April 18, 1984

Tractor and Loader:

Three companies bid on the tractor and loader as follows:

Long Lake Ford: Ford 5610 - $Z5,984.00

Case Power and Equipment: Case 1394 - SZZ,060.00
Osseo Sports: John Deere Z350 - $19,141.49

Deere also had an alternate bid on a new 1983 model at $18,739.51 which is identical
to the 1984 with the same warranty. The difference would be delivery time. It would
take 30 days for the 1983 model and 1Z0-140 days for the 1984 model. My
recommendation is to accept the low bid of John Deere's 1983 model if available. If
it is not available, then go with the 1984 model.

I
I
I
I

Brush Chipper:

Two companies bid on the brush chipper as follows:

Road Machinery: Morbark Eager Beever - $6,597.00
Lindig Manufacturing: Lindig XR16 PT1 - $4,445.00 .~} /~

My recommendation is to accept the high bid of Road Machinery, as Lindig Manufacturing
did not submit a bid bond with their bid. If Council wants to go with the Iow bid and
waive the bid bond requirement, I would have no problem with that. Both chippers are
acceptable.

I
I

Street Sweeper:

Two companies bid on used street sweepers. I recommend rejecting both bids. We called
for a 1978 or newer model. Itasca Equipment bid a 1974 model which doesn't meet
specs. MacQueen Equipment bid a 1978 M.B. sweeper which is no longer manufactured
and it does not do a good job of sweeping.

The same two companies also bid new units as follows:

Itasca Equipment: Mobil TE-3 - $53,6Z9.00

MacQueen Equipment: Elgin White Wing- $54,128.00
(5% cash disc.) Z,706.00
$51,4ZZ.00

My recommendation would be to purchase the Elgin Sweeper at $51,4ZZ.00 and add
options 3 and 5 which would add $5,100.00. The reason for adding these options later
is because Mobil does not have them. There are other options available that we can
discuss at the meeting.
