TO: FROM: DATE: RE: Mayor and City Councilmembers Selection Committee August 24, 1984 Selecting applicant to fill City position of Urban Economic Development Planner Enc 1: (1) Job description for position of Urban Economic Development Planner (2) Copy of ad placed in Minneapolis Sunday Star and Tribune and Anoka Union (3) Proposed resolution for Council adoption Enclosure (1) contains the job description for the position of Urban Economic Development Planner. Enclosure (2) contains a copy of the ad that was placed in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune Sunday Paper and the Anoka Union which was published twice in the Minneapolis Sunday paper and once in the City's official newspaper the Anoka Union. The City received resumes from 22 applicants for the above said position. The Selection Committees review of resumes narrowed the persons to be interviewed to six candidates. The interviews were conducted on Tuesday, August 21, 1984 at the Ramsey Municipal Center. The Selection Committee was grouped into three teams as follows: 1) Team #1 - Council Personnel Committee 2) Team #2 - Commission Chairpersons 3) Team #3 - City Staff Members Each team separately interviewed each of the candidates. There were prepared canned questions for each team to ask, however, each team could ask as many questions as they wanted into the interview. After all the interviews were completed the teams met and critiqued their finding as to who of the candidates was the best to fill the position of Urban Economic Development Planner. Selection of Candidate - Thje Selection Committee actually only interviewed four candidates out of the six candidates. One of the candidates withdrew the night she was to be interviewed and one candidate never responded to the invitation for the interview. Calls were made to the party's home on several occasions but to no avail. Page 1 of 2
