I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />SOLID WASTE ABATEMENT <br /> ACTION PAPER <br /> JUNE I <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Anoka County is firmly committed to solid waste abatement. <br /> <br />Ae <br /> <br />The County will initiate and cooperate with local municipalities in <br />the establishment of source separation curbside collection <br />projects, yard waste composting programs, and office paper <br />opportunities in order to take various products out of the waste <br />stream, <br /> <br />Be <br /> <br />The County will pursue mechanical/processing alternatives with <br />the primary interest in burn facilities of 200 to /~00 tons per day <br />units in order to cause a substantial reduction in the amount of <br />refuse going into the ground. <br /> <br />Ce <br /> <br />The County is committed to continually identifying and taking <br />measures to restrict and reduce as much as possible the flow of <br />refuse which is generated outside the County from being disposed <br />of in Anoka County. <br /> <br />Anoka County will commit substantial resources to the solid waste <br />abatement effort. <br /> <br />The County will hire a professional Solid Waste Abatement <br />Coordinator, whose primary responsibility will be dedication to <br />abatement activities. -The position of Special Assistant to the <br />County Administrator will be established and a person with <br />technical experience in the environmental field will be recruited. <br /> <br />Bw <br /> <br />Further, the County Administrator may take steps to secure <br />intergovernmental assistance, when needed, to achieve <br />accessibility and acceptability at Starer Metropolitan Council, and <br />Municipal levels in the coordination of the Anoka County Solid <br />Waste Abatement Program. Such assistance will also be <br />invaluable in working with the business community and citizen <br />groups to help accomplish the abatement goals. <br /> <br />Ce <br /> <br />The County will appoint a Solid Waste Abatement Team ("A- <br />Team") comprised of a representative of each of the following <br />departments~ <br /> <br />Community Health and Social Services, County Administration <br />Office, County Attorneys Office, and Intergovernmental <br />Coordination. The A-Team will serve a coordinating function; <br />serve as a sounding board and advisor for the Solid Waste <br />Abatement Coordinator, County Board, and County <br />Administrator; work with the State Legislature, and other State <br />agencies, Metropolitan Council, other Counties~ municipalities~ <br />the business community and citizen groups; and help achieve <br /> <br /> <br />
