MENO

Lloyd Schnelle, City Administrator

FRON:

Peter Raatikka, City Engineer

DATE:

February 21, 1984

Drainage Problem at 162nd Avenue and Zirconium Street

~ As discussed this morning, ! have been contacted by Del Skeim in
~__ regard to the drainage problem on parcel 1895 as shown on the
't "' 'attached map. .
J
At the time this area was platted and the streets constructed,
drainage from parcel 1895 flowed south through a culvert under 162nd
Avenue and along a ditch on parcel 2130 to County Ditch No. 3.
Later Mr. Menkv~ld filled the ditch on parcel 2130 and constructed

a house. This blocked the drainage from. parcel 1895.1895
Mr. Skeim has recently constructed a house on parcel and has
proposed to deed to the City the drainage easement as shown on the
attached map. However, he is also requesting that the City install
a dry well on his property to minimize ponding of water.

A dry well would be a relatively inexpensive solution which could
operate for a number of years provided it is maintained. However, a
permanent solution to the problem would be to construct storm sewer
between parcels 2110 and 21~0 or 2130 and 2140 and drain the area to
County Ditch No. 3.

Please place this item on the agenda for council action.

City Attorney Goodrich has infor~d me that even though Mr. Skeim's
be held liable for

house is not subject to flooding, the City Could
flooding on his land.
