BOX 771 Dear Rsmsey Resident, ANOKA, MINNESOTA 5,5303 October 15,1984 lhe Ramsey Lions £1ub has become aware of a petition submitted to the Ramsey City Counci! voicing concerns about the Sand Drag Races that were held this summer in the Rsmsey area. lhese Sand Drag Races are cosponsored by your Ramsey Lions Club as a method to raise funds for our charitable projects. We managed and operated all concessions at these races. All proceeds were routed directly back lnto our community to be used for the better- ment of our children, parks, schools, and disadvantaged citizens. Some examples of recent contributions are: Purchased and donated a video cassette recorder and camera to the Ramsey Elementary School ($1,800). Donated new playground equipment at the Ram~ey Elementary School ($1,000). Please note that your Ramsey Lions Club funded and installed the entire school playground several years ago ($14,000). 0 Annual scholarship to a graduating student that resides in Ramsey ($300). Purchased and donated two canoes and equipment to the patients at the Anoka State Hospital ($728). Funded numerous eye exams and purchased glasses for needy children and/or elderly people living in Ramsey ($1,000). lhe petitions voiced concerns about the noise caused by the 4X4 racing and the public address system. We are aware of additional concerns that the Sand Drag Races could become a more frequent event, such as every weekend. We would like to address these con- cerns. o Noise: In order to create the least inconvenience the Sand Drag Races are scheduled between the hours of 10:DO A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on a weekend. We are trying to improve the public address system to limit the noise drift but the wind direction sometimes hinders our best efforts.
