I <br /> I <br />I <br />:1 <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br />MEMO <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Ramse¥ City Council <br /> <br />City Engineer <br /> <br />January 7~ 1986 <br /> <br />Report on the December 19, 1~85 Meeting on the Status of <br />Anoka Groundwater Investigation <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />As requested at your December 17, 1985 council meeting, I attended the <br />December 19, 1985 meeting of the Anoka County Environmental Services <br />Committee. <br /> <br />The meeting consisted of a presentation by Waste Management, Inc. and <br />Hickok and Associates on the status of the remedial groundwater <br />investigation of the Anoka Sanitary Landfill. <br /> <br />Mr. Larry Johnson, the Project Manager from Hickok and Associates <br />reported the following conclusions he had reached from the <br />investigation: <br /> <br />2. <br />3. <br />4. <br /> <br />The landfill has no impact to the west and north. <br />The landfill has limited impact to the southeast. <br />The bedrock is approximately 100 feet below the ground surface. <br />The landfill is underlain by the Grantsberg Till which slopes in <br />all directions. <br />Both the bedrock and the drift groundwater elevations slope to <br />the southeast. <br />The groundwater on the west side of the landfill is high in <br />nitrates and chlorides. He believes the high levels are due to <br />on-site wastewater disposal systems. <br />The contamination at Well No. 8 is located above the till. <br />No contamination has been found along Sunfish Lake Boulevard. <br />All contamination found to date is restricted to Waste Management <br />property. <br />Contaminant levels found at the Anoka Landfill are low compared <br />to other landfills. <br />The landfill impact is a manageable situation. <br /> <br />Waste Management indicated that there were several things which would <br />require further investigation. Those items are as follows: <br /> <br />The extent of the contamination on the south and southeast <br />both vertically and horizontally. <br /> <br />To prove that the high level of nitrates and chlorides on the <br />west side of the landfill are not coming from the landfill <br />Waste Management proposes to add two piezometers. <br /> <br />3. Water quality in the lower shallow drift. <br /> <br /> <br />
