I i Counc t lmembe r adoption: introduced the following resolution and moved for its 1~~~ t86- WHERF2~, the continuation of the program for peacetime registration for the Selective Service Syst~ contributes to national readiness by reducing the time required for a full defense mobilization; a~d WHERF2%S, over one million United States citizens have sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and freedoms of all Americans and registration for Selective Service is an integral part of current preparedness to preserve these rights and freedoms tn the future; and WHEREAS, more than 96 percent of potential registrants have registered with the Selective Service System since the resumption of registration and by so registering have enhanced the United States' national defense preparedness; and WHERFAS, the Selective Service System has been tasked with assisting in the process of improving our readiness by calling upon eighteen year old male citizens to comply with the law by simply registering their name, address, date of birth and social security nmber at the Post Office within thirty days of their eighteenth birthday. ~ ~]tEREFORE, BE IT RES(I~VED BY ~I~E CITY GO[INCIL OF ~R CI~"~ OF RAMSEY, ANOKA G~INTY, S~I%TE OF MINNES~, as follows: 1) ~hat the City Council does hereby support continuation of registration with Selective Service and does hereby declare April, 1986 as "Registration Awareness Month". ~he motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Gouncilmember and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following voted against the sa~e: and the following abstained: and the following were absent: whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City council this the 25th day of March, 1986.
