I
!
I

I
I
I

I
,I

I
I

the Ct ty of Ram~ey, 8/85 - FA~;E 3

SERVICI,:S AND (;^l'AClTll.iS(con't)

All animal receiving and adoption services will be available.

Public education programs, designed to familiarize people of
all ages with animal behavior and the proper care of animals
will be offered both on-site and at other locations throughout
the county on a continuing and on-going basis.

SUMMARY

The list of services to be provided is by no means exhaustive,
and the Society will remain sensitive and responsive to the
needs of the communities it serves.
A full-service animal shelter facility benefits the entire pop-
ulation of a community, not only those who own pets. Non-pet
owners will be served by an expected reduction in the number of
uncontrolled animals, a more effective rabies vaccination pro-
gram, and an increased awareness of responsible pet ownership
on the part of those who do keep pets.
While there will continue to be irresponsible pet owners and,
therefore, animal related problems, the shelter will provide
a direct resource to the City of Ramsey which can more effective-
ly address these situations than those systems now in place.

The Greater Anoka County Humane Society has provided programs
and services ~irected toward animal welfare and public educa-
tion since May, 1979 when it was first organized. During this time,
the human population increase in Anoka County has brought an
increased animal population and, as both populations continue
to grow, so does the need for an animal shelter. A shelter
facility is not a luxury -- it is a necessity. The shelters
in neighboring counties are no longer able to accept unwanted
animals from our area as they have done in the past; the num-
bers are simply too great.

Capital development support from the City of Ramsey will assist
in leveraging support from the private sector and will expedite
construction. We ask support from the City of Ramsey because
services in animal care, shelter and control are essential.

We appreciate your consideration and hope for your support.

Respectfully Submitted,
GREATER ANOKA ~OUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

BERNARD J.' FE~ELL
Executive Director
