CC Regular Session Meeting Date: 10/25/2016 By: Colleen Lasher,Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution 916-10-209 to Hire a Fall Seasonal Worker Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker. Annually the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to work during the summer and fall months in the Parks, Streets, and Utilities Divisions of Public Works. The process to fill these positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews,background checks, pre-employment testing,City Council approval to hire and on-boarding. As a result, staff selected one qualified entry level seasonal candidate. The candidate has passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring him. Notification: Entry level seasonal pay: First year seasonal employees earn$10.00 per hour. Each year that seasonal employees return they received a twenty-five cent per hour increase in pay,to a maximum of$12.00 per hour. Observations/Alternatives: Option 41 To hire the selected 2016 Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker. Option 42:Not moving ahead with hiring the Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker. Staff does not recommend this option due to the inability to meet the highly labor intensive seasonal work demands in the Public Works Department. Funding Source: The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2016 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommends option Al above,hiring Mr.Mark Silbernagel at$10.00 per hour, effective October 13, 2016.
