The project is now
complete. This case requires no action. Please note, final payment for Fire Station 92 is on the consent agenda
tonight(per standard practice).
BACKGROUND
Please see attached background MEMO for a brief overview of this project and the corresponding process. In
summary,Up until April 2016,the City of Ramsey's Fire Department operated Fire Station 42 from the City's "Old
Municipal Center" site. The former location of Fire Station 92 was identified as a non-feasible/ineffective long term
solution for Fire Station 92; and the City's overall fire protection/public safety needs. As a result, beginning in
2006, the City shifted attention to the property located at 5650 Alpine Drive to become the long-term home for Fire
Station 42. In April 2016, the City open doors to the new Fire Station 42, located at 5650 Alpine Drive. This new
station includes a police sub-station and a satellite Allina ambulance stall. The new fire station budget was
$3.872M,the contract for construction was$3.135M(Brennen Construction).
UPDATE
(1)Patrick Brama(Asst. City Admin.)will provide a high-level summary of the project; and will discuss the
project budget. The city did come in below budget on this project(by almost$200,000). Please see attached
budget for details.
(2)Matt Kohner(Fire Chief)will provide a presentation of the new Fire Station 42 from an operations
perspective, including pictures. Fire Station 92 includes a police sub-station, and a satellite Allina ambulance
stall.
(3)Bruce Schwartzman(BKV Group)will provide an overview of how the construction project went from
an process and administration perspective.NOTE: BKV Group was the architect on this project, and
provided construction administration services.
Notification:
NA
Observations/Alternatives:
