It is not highly used park per se, but there are a lot of joggers and dog walkers, so it is appropriate
to put one there.
Chair Bennett asked if there were any questions or concerns. There were none.
Motion by Commissioner Mobry, seconded by Commissioner Chubb, to recommend to City
Council approval of the 2016—2020 Parks Capital Improvement Plan.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Bennett, Commissioners Mobry, Chubb, and Fyten. Voting
No: None. Absent: Commissioners Barr, Trappen and Troy.
6. COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT
Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood noted staff is working on concerts for
summer and processing the contracts.
Chair Bennett said the attendance numbers were fantastic this past summer. He noted the activities
on Thursdays were rained out only once. He stated he appreciated all of Mr. Riverblood's hard
work as well as his staff.
Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood thanked the Commissioners for
working at the picnic. He pointed out the Park Patron Picnic next year may coincide with the last
concert of the year. The date is August 25, 2016 and it will be held rain or shine. He said staff is
working with Trott Brook Financial on this.
Commissioner Chubb stated he has seen a lot of ads for help for the skating rinks. He asked how
the hiring is going.
Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood noted the City typically hires for 8
positions. There are responsibilities associated with this job. One is to be a reflection of the City,
and responsible people are needed. It is helpful if there are more applicants than needed to help in
choosing the applicants that would be the best fit. Sometimes young people have not had the
experiences in certain situations that may come up in this position.
Chair Bennett asked what the minimum age is.
Parks&Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood responded it is 18. The minimum age
was raised because there are standards for how long minors can work. He said figuring out work
schedules with busy schedules of teens is a challenge with their school and activity schedules.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Commissioner Fyten, seconded by Commissioner Chubb, to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Bennett, Commissioners Fyten, Chubb, and Mobry.
