Commissioner Shumway st·ted that the Ramsay Resident should contain <br />Park Commission agendas so that the P·rk Commisison viii h·ve more citizen <br />contact to better understand p·rk needs in the City. <br /> <br />Case ~4: Discussion Regarding Potential Corridors for Multiple Use Trail <br /> <br />Commissioner Lichter stated that in the lqorthfork P.U.D. development, there <br />will be trails for public and private use. Commissioner Shumway stated that he <br />is concerned that the City is not meeting another need of riders. The riders <br />club has offered to clear and maintain trails; there is no interest in this. <br />Commission Bendriksen stated that the City needs to consider facilities for all <br />residents and various uses. Commissioner Shumway stated that City staff should <br />not be determining trail corridors. <br /> <br />Commissioner ltendriksen stated that they should look at various points on the <br />City map which might logically be linked by trails such as: l~orthfork park, <br />Whispering Pines park, Mississippi River park, Rum River Central park, Ramse7 <br />Elementary School park, Boy Scouts park, and Wayside park. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lichter commented that when the Comprehensive Park plan is <br />updated, the various user groups should be notified for their input. <br />Commission Lichter also stated that he was in favor of using the Trott Brook <br />corridor for certain trails such as cross country skiing. <br /> <br />Commissioner Zimmerman suggested that trails may go where there are power and <br />utility easements and rights-of-way. Commissioner Hendriksen stated that the <br />City needs to plan for trail alignments whether the land is developed or <br />undeveloped. <br /> <br />Co~missioner Zimmerman stated that in the past, the City has been reluctant to <br />develop trails. Chairman Peter·on stated that at public hearings regarding <br />bicycle and pedestrian trails, most people were opposed to such development and <br />there was little support because of the concern that the City is providing <br />trails for non-residents. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shumway stated that the Lute Line Trail through Hennepin County is <br />an advantage to those host communities. <br /> <br />Discussion Regarding County Park Along the Mississippi River <br /> <br />Commissioner Deemer noted that the Mississippi River park was donated to the <br />County by Mr. Hughesby for use as a wildlife preserve with severe limitations <br />on other uses. <br /> <br />Chairman Peter·on asked whether the City can request certain land within a <br />subdivision even if the developer is opposed to dedicating it to the City. <br /> August 26, 1986 <br /> Ooint Commission Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />
