Police Captain Dwyer stated the Police Department is requesting the installation of a fence and
lighting on the City property north of 142nd Avenue and west of Jasper Street. The property
would be used solely as an impound lot for the Police Department's seized vehicles. He stated
the City has received a quote in the amount of $5,100.00 for installation of the fence and lighting.

Director o1' Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated the proposed location would allow officers to
check thc vehicles more frequently, provide increased security for the officers, and fi'ee up
parking space in the public works parking lot.

Chairperson Elvig asked if the City ~vould pay out-of-pocket for the damage to the vehicles.

Finance Officer Lund stated the City will report the loss to the insurance company, but the
deductible will not be met, so the out-of-pocket cost will go against the City's aggregate
deductible. She noted that funding for the fence and lighting could be taken from the Council
Contingency Fund.

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Chairperson Elvig, to recommend that the
City Council authorize the purchase and installation of a fence and lighting on City property to be
used as a Police Department impound lot, for an amount not to exceed $5,100.00, with funding
being obtained fi'om the Conncil Contingency Fund.

Motion carried.
