January 14, 1986

TO: Park and Recreation Commission

FROM: City Staff

RE: Application for 1987 IAWCON/LCMR funds

As you know, it is time to start considering what projects and/or
activities you wish to include in the City's application for 1987
LAWCON/LCMR funds. As with last year's applications, high
priority projects likely to receive funding include: natural
park-like areas, fishing piers, bicycle and walking paths, hiking
trails, campgrounds, fountains and gardens, public river accesses
and swimming beaches. Once again, Louis Jambois, Parks and
Recreation Grants Unit, DEED, has offered to attend a Commission
meeting to discuss the LAWCON/LCMR application process and
requi r~nents.

Councilmember Cox has recommended that the following activities
be included in the application for 1987 LAWCON/LCMR funds:

River's Bend Park

- trail (fqr non-motorized use) along perimeter
of park
- picnic tables along river
- pavilion/picnic shelter
- path to site of future community center
- parking and road access into the park
- maintenance trail to oxbow area of park

Councilmember Cox may be at the meeting to discuss his
suggestions with the Commission.

Based on several discussions with the City Council, City Staff is
suggesting that the Park and Recreation Commission determine what
activities they wish to include in the application for 1987
LAWCON/LCMR funds and present this recommendation to the City
Council for their input and comments before the application is
prepared.
